Samsung Rolls Out Entry-Level Crystal UHD 4K TVs for 2023

For 2023, Samsung is introducing its entry-level Crystal UHD TVs in sizes from 43 inches to 85 inches. We have the details and pricing.

2023 Samsung Crystal UHD CU8000 and CU7000 TVs

Following up on their 2023 Neo QLED, QLED, and QD-OLED TV announcements, Samsung continues to slow-roll the pricing and availability of their new TVs.

The next step in Samsung’s 2023 TV rollout is their entry-level LED/LCD Crystal UHD TVs. There are 14 models divided into two series, the CU8000, and CU7000

Features

Here are some brief feature highlights for Samsung’s entry-level Crystal UHD TVs.

Display Resolution: All Samsung Crystal UHD TVs have 4K UHD display resolution: 3840 x 2160 pixels = 8.2 million pixels (8 megapixels).

Edge-lit Backlight Example

LED Lighting: Samsung’s Crystal UHD TVs incorporate LED Edge lighting. This means that LED lights are placed within the TV frame along the outside edges of the LCD panel. The light is dispersed across the screen using “light diffusers” or “light guides.” This enables the TV to be made very thin but black levels are not very deep and the light is distributed unevenly behind the LCD panel.

This results in the edges of the screen becoming brighter than the center area of the screen which is sometimes visible in very bright or dark scenes.

Samsung HDR

HDR: HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG HDR formats are supported. Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision.

Samsung Crystal UHD 4K Processor

Crystal Processor 4K: Content on screen is upscaled with detailed precision to 4K.

Samsung Gaming Hub

Gaming Hub:  Allows gamers to play games from Xbox and other game streaming partners with no downloads, storage limits, or console required. In addition, Game Bar 3.0 provides several gameplay setting options.

Samsung Tizen Smart Hub TV

Smart Hub: Entertainment, Gaming, and other entertainment content options available all in one place, including Samsung TV Plus. The Hub also provides access to major streaming services with access to a lot more via the Samsung TV app store. In addition, the Hub makes content recommendations based on individual viewing preferences.

HDMI: The CU8000 and 7000 include HDMI ver 2.0b inputs. Support is provided for ARC/eARC for convenient audio connection with most TVs, and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) for gaming is supported.

USB: The CU8000 sets include 2 USB ports while the CU7000 sets provides one USB. USB ports can be used to play compatible media files, connect USB keyboard/mouse, or install firmware updates if not accessible via the internet. Consult the TV’s user guide for details.

Remote: The CU8000 comes with Samsung’s solar-powered/solar and USB-C rechargeable remote, while the CU7000 comes with a standard disposable battery operated remote.

Voice Assistant: The CU8000 series have Alexa and Bixby built-in, while the CU7000 series works with Alexa and Google Assistant through external compatible devices.

Wireless Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth ver 5.2

Soundbar Pairing: Samsung’s Crystal UHD TV models can pair with Samsung Q and S-Series soundbars for a more immersive sound listening experience by combining the TV’s speakers with the soundbar (Q-Symphony).

The refresh rate is pretty dismal and my brother refuses to look at pretty much all new TVs as he has a still working and very nice 50″ plasma. .

I went 4K a few years back and very much like the picture. My Samsung is a 55″ curved model as I fondly recall Todd-AO in the theatres. “Sigh”…

There are two curved Samsungs still available in 55″ & 65″ but they are now the green-headed step children and I doubt the 65″ outside great screen acreage would be a genuine upgrade from mine. Any thoughts on an upgrade path to a max of 70” for culturally curmudgeonly cretins such as I would be most welcome, my friend.
