Top 10 Hi-Fi News Stories: May 15, 2022

For the week ending May 15, 2022 we roundup the top 10 Hi-Fi news stories of the week from across the web.

Good Vibes

Good Vibes is about spotlighting friends, influencers and contributors in the audio and music community to say THANK YOU! Check out these ten stories from across the web. Do you have someone to spotlight? Leave a comment so we can all check them out.

1. Branding Fail

🇺🇸 Are you an audiophile? Do you aspire to be an audiophile? Do you love music more than gear or vice versa? Can anyone be one? Is there a test?

There’s a stigma that goes along with the term audiophile. I propose we rebrand and call ourselves “audiofriends”. The audio community is one of the best communities in the world.

Check out the latest ecoustics.com video with my schoolyard friend Emiko talking about this pivot shift.

#Audiophile or #Audiofriend

2. 100K Club

🇺🇸 Congratulations on 100K YouTube subscribers to the Cheap Audio Man. Congrats Randy for being a super cool audiophile or audiofriend, demonstrating that audio doesn’t have to be the price of a luxury car, vacation to Hawaii or high end.

3. Upmixing

🇺🇸 Gene is challenging Audiophile Purists who are stuck in no up mixing or EQ. Are you open to try new things? As an audiophile, we should strive for exposure, listening and learning. A key attribute of my audiophile journey is exposure and experience.

4. High End Preview

🇺🇸 HiFi Turtle and Bass Therapy give us some Munich High End 2022 previews. Are you going? Have you attended a High End show? HOORAY for the return of shows.

LS60 are all the rave right now. Have you heard them?

5. Home Theater Setup

🇺🇸 Home Theater Fanatics shows us how to hook up a home theater surround sound system. I strongly agree with Jiles’ choice of selecting a quality power distributor and Shunyata makes great audio products; you can justify these on look alone!

6. OIART

🇨🇦 Are you an inspiring Canadian audio recording tech? My friend Matthew @mproac has nothing but rave review for OIART’s 11-month audio recording program in London Ontario Canada, eh!

7. Collecting

🇺🇸 Are you collecting? Alex is @hifi_collecting_with_alex

Continuing on the audio journey that my dad started in the 1960’s.

8. Gov’t Records

🇺🇸  Now that we know about the Whitehouse record collection, I wonder what type of audio gear is the big house? Any predictions? A shout out to Besfloras Nievera for sharing this story on LinkedIn.

9. Show Advice

🇩🇪 What to expect at Munich High End 2022? Darko explains

10. Fake Media

🇺🇸 Are Audiophiles Fake? Can you smell Fake? Listen to Tony Whatley interview Kimanzi Constable on Fake Media Influence Exposed. This is not audio, but FAKE is all around. Error on the side of authenticity.

Hmmmmm…At the risk of being labeled “pretentious” by the plebs I shall hereby declare the following:

The Lady Emiko is a Goddess (must be said in a British accent and in hushed, dulcet tones).

Cheap Audio Man is superior to Tim, The Enchanter. How so? CAM speaks the troof and the troof is a light to the cockroaches of audio. And he has that most elusive of all human senses, the Sixth Sense. A sense of humor.

Darko is still a dorko. And a faux one at that. And…dare I say it? OooOooo, dare! Dare!

A frAudiophile. Speaking of those (fr)audiophiles, when it comes to listening to music for pleasure they are more charlatan than Puritan, if you will. They might well stone you for owning a fully automatic turntable (I own three) and in the same moment praise the new Pro-Ject Automat A1 because its automatic system totally separates itself from the automatial partses once the tone arm drops. Blah! Blah! Blah!

Fake Media?! On the interwebs?! Surely you jest?! Nay, I kid you not and I heartily agree. Not to beat a drum or a dead horse but if one listens to the soundtrack of your life, it matters little if it is played on a 13.2 Atmos and Auro 3D system or a 2 inch full range speaker on a portable transistor radio from the mid 60s. If it touches your heart, it will by pass your ego. Remember lads and lasses, the Doobies sang what?

“Listen To The Music”. Not fixate on the equipment.

How’s that for pretentious posturing? Meh…Methinks the kiddies doth protest too much. I am listening to Carmen McRae. Another Goddess of song. I have no clue what cartridge is on my turntable only that I can hear Carmen sing as tho’ it were only for my ears alone.

There I go again with the pretentiousness.
